Introducing TSG Labs

TSG Labs is where The Stack Group explores how emerging technologies can become useful products, infrastructure, and businesses.

The Stack Group exists to power African ambition by building companies across payments, banking, consumer finance, and emerging technology. Paystack showed us what happens when better infrastructure meets ambitious businesses: companies don’t just accept more payments, they grow, hire, serve more customers, and reach new markets.

But businesses need more than payments to grow. They need better tools to operate, move money, reach customers, build software, and participate in the global economy.

That’s where TSG Labs comes in.

TSG Labs is focused on the technologies that could shape the next decade of commerce, starting with AI and stablecoins.

AI is already changing how software is built, how businesses operate, how people interact with products, and how work gets done. Stablecoins are changing how money moves, especially across borders, and could create new possibilities for businesses and consumers participating in the global economy.

Our work is to explore these technologies closely, understand where they can solve real problems, and turn the most promising ideas into products people can actually use.

TSG Labs is not a traditional research lab.

We’re not here to build demos or explore technology from a distance. We’re here to build with it.

Our starting point is Africa because this is where our deepest context, infrastructure, and operating knowledge come from. But we don’t believe products built from Africa should be limited to Africa.

The goal is to build products and companies that are useful in African markets, strong enough to compete globally, and thoughtful about the real conditions businesses and consumers operate in every day.

Some of what we build may support existing companies within The Stack Group. Some may become new products. Some may become infrastructure. Some may become entirely new companies.

In every case, the goal is the same: to move from emerging technology to real-world usefulness as quickly and thoughtfully as possible.

That means we’ll prototype, test, learn, and share what’s useful. Some experiments will stay small. Some will fail. Some will become products. And some may become the foundation for new businesses.

What matters is that the work helps businesses and consumers do more, and helps us understand what emerging technologies can make possible in practice.

We’ll use this space to share what we’re learning, what we’re building, and what we’re launching.

We’ll write about the technologies we’re exploring, the problems we’re paying attention to, and the products and companies that come out of TSG Labs.

This is the beginning of the work. There is a lot to build, and we’re just getting started.
